Winter League

The Winter league is up and running again every Sunday at 10am. It's the same as last year - just turn up and pay a £1 on the day with the winner getting the spoils (and points that count toward the overall league).

Ideal way for beginners to sample competitive play that's not taken too seriously! Also a good way for regulars to keep their game sharp through the winter months. And remember: It's always nice weather on a Sunday!

Tanco Cup


There was the odd furry er sorry flurry...

The golfing world was turned upside down this week and I don't mean Tiger in his car either. Yes SGC won the Tanco Cup for only the third time ever!

The Stromness winter golfers thrashed their Kirkwall counterparts (ahem) convincingly 6.5 to 5.5. Both sets of golfers endured biting winds and even snow showers, well most did - Ronald & Jackie managed to avoid the snow by getting soundly beaten by Gary & Stevie and into the warmth of the clubhouse early.

Thanks go to all the Kirkwall guys for making the effort to come through and to Jean for the mince & clapshot. Also thanks to Ray for hand cutting the 18 greens for us (or 13 of them for Ron & co!)

Intercounty

Consider the following numbers:

Now bearing those numbers in mind 26 is a very small figure, miniscule, hardly worth counting even... So in actually fact it could be said Shetland's 26 point victory in this year's Intercounty (32.5 to 6.5) was indeed a close run thing!

Well as always (except for when we won) it's the taking part that matters most. Everyone had a great weekend and as always the hospitally was second to none. On behalf of everyone who travelled we wish to thank everyone in Shetland for making us most welcome - even Scalloway's Ian Scott's neighbours who pointed 3 of our team in the right direction when they walked into their living room looking for a party!

Eclectic

Well done to Angus for winning the first ever Eclectic. Well first we've ever had in the mens section at least.

He won it by a shot from Denis & Kenny with a best total of 49 (-16)

Scotsman Fantasy Golf Password

The final results are in. Sid wins our mini league and is 36th overall. I win the club league after both me and Helen tie 10th overall this week. Trousers Foubister is last in both leagues showing his selection of golfers is as poor as his selection of golfing attire!

Password this week is: LEVEN.

So time to put the fantasy clubs in the attic and we'll see you all again in spring...
